She knew how to read music so she downloaded e-books from the Internet to learn how to play. So she decided to soldier on and started learning on her own. She wanted to know how bagpipes would sound in a normal song and not just in parade bands. And also, the fact that bagpipes are one of the toughest instruments in the world to play.īut her vision remained solid. She soon found out that there is no proper bagpipe teacher in India. She decided that she wanted to incorporate bagpipes in different types of music genres. But then, she came across a foreign band using bagpipes in their songs and it mesmerized her. It’s not necessarily on the tip of our tongues, like France, Italy and Spain. I suppose there’s a lot of acoustic movement happening in Scotland and Britain in general.
What Scottish bands were you into growing up? He was the one that was pushing boundaries and trying to get pipes recognized as an instrument. Then I met Gordon Duncan-which is what changed my life. Then I had a solo teacher-it’s not like guitar where you can pick it up yourself. I started off doing traditional pipes the proper way by joining a pipe band. When I was younger at school I was the only person who played at my school. And I wanted to get Ainslie to drink a dram with me!įolk music is much cooler in Scotland it seems…
